Welcome new First Grade families!    I look forward to starting our new school year together. 

Here’s a brief overview of what we will cover the first quarter:

Bible:  Creation, Adam and Eve, Abraham, Issac, Jacob and Joseph.

Math:  Counting to 100;  counting by ones and tens;  writing numbers to 70;  addition and subtraction families one through six; story problems;  counting pennies and dimes;  geometric shapes;  completing a bar graph;  the calendar;  patterns;  and directionality.

Phonics:    Short and long vowels;  consonants and blends;  one-vowel rule;  k-c rule;  special sounds charts 6 – 8;  and compound words. 

Reading:  Oral reading assessment;  high frequency words;  robust vocabulary words;  comprehension skills;  learning to predict, classify, categorize, compare, contrast, determine cause and effect,  identify story sequence and literary genres. 

Grammar:  Getting organized;  defining a sentence;  word order;  subject nouns;  capitalization;  verbs;  and punctuation.
